Your Web Team Needs a Librarian

One of the problems with many local government web sites is that the responsibility for creating and maintaining the web site falls under the authority of the Marketing/Communications department or the IT department. While there are undoubtedly clever people employed in marketing and IT they are often not web specialists and not well placed to maintain and develop outstanding user experiences on local government web sites. This article argues for the implementation of web teams and the inclusion of librarians on those web teams.

Our future on the web

I was asked at a conference recently “is print dead?”. My answer was no, not yet. Ten years ago when I was working in the printing industry there was concern that print wouldn’t be around in five years time, that everything would be on the web.

Digital communication – ignore it at our own peril

The days when Local Government could rely on their local newspaper and radio station to get their message to their community are long gone. Recent events in Iran and China have highlighted the power of electronic media and social networking as a communications tool.

Web Review Wednesday

Encouraging staff to update their web content can take a disproportionate amount of an administrator’s time. By holding a review event you can increase participation while reducing the time spent chasing updates.
